Caroline Mann
Caroline is a textile artist with a love of hooky &
proggy mat making and is always bursting with ideas. "Too
many ideas, so little time!" She has a good eye for
colour and being a keen recycler produces wonderful creations
using scrap materials. Caroline worked within the commercial
legal sector for twenty years as an information professional
before returning to her love of textiles as a career.
Caroline is currently exploring and creating art inspired
by natural forms including geological forms and Rock Art
in its basic state. The beautiful colours and the ethereal
light of Northumberland provide a constant source of inspiration
for her.
Liz Treadway
Liz has spent her working life in TV and Radio
but her feet have always been firmly on the ground, perhaps
this is where her fascination for rag rugging came from.
She now likes to use the old traditional skills of hooky
and proggy to create more contemporary designs.
After
a recent trip to Africa she was inspired by the vivid
colours in the fabrics and has used some of these fabrics
in her designs. Liz also enjoys experimenting with dyeing
recycled wools, in order to create these vibrant colours.
She is now able to spend more time on her textile work,
and is enjoying passing on her skills to others through
various workshops around the region.
Sally Danys
Sally’s love for ceramics began several years ago through attending a local night class in Gateshead. Having worked as a primary school teacher specialising in special educational needs for over twenty years she eventually decided to return to being a student herself. In 2007 Sally began a Degree in contemporary ceramic practice at Newcastle College – and she hasn’t looked back since!
Sally has produced a wide body of her own work ranging from large outdoor sculptural pieces to small, beautifully decorated tiles. Her extensive knowledge of primary-aged pupils combined with this creative expertise has meant that she has been able to offer individually tailored workshops to schools. Following a recent whole-school project producing a hand-made tiled mural one pupil summed up the feedback from the school,
‘Great. Fantastic. Thank you very much. It was brilliant.’
Sally’s strong desire to take both adults and children on an enjoyable creative journey is inspired by her own exploratory approach to the wonderful versatility of clay.
